NORTHERN GLACIAL PLAINS
Terrain: Deep snow. Long fractures in glaciers masked by snow drifts, so step in the wrong place and you'll wish yyou had a parachute. Occasional rocky spire, all that is visable of a buried mountain. A blizzard every week or so. Evergreens are clustered around the shore but become much les frequent as you move inland.
Source: Trees are very large and may be used as masts or cut down into smaller chunks for woodworking.
Wildlife: Arctic foxes, polar bears and walruses on the coast.
SNOWLANDS OF THE NORTH
Terrain: Seasonal snow for 10 months of the eyar. Shallow snow with occasional deep pockets. Evergreens are scattered widely. In the 2 month interval plants sprout in wild profusion (mainly foxglove like flowers) and occasional snowmelt lakes.
Source: Red foxgloves produce a poisonous sap. Purple foxgloves can be made into long lasting ration packs by a qualified healer crushing and preparing the stems. Small ferns also produce potato like starch reserves among their roots for surviving the winter.
Wildlife: Arctic foxes and polar bears during the snow seaon. Timber wolves are present all year. Wolves with white coats are common and shy away from contact, but the occasional wolf has brown streaks in it's fur, and these will attack viciously.
NORTHERN FLATLANDS AND PRIMITIVE VILLAGE OF SHACKS
Terrain: Flat scrubland with small bushes and the occasional stunted tree. The climate is cold and bracken is profuse. Occasional soft patches of marshy ground appear, usually denoted by marsh grass. Near the coast a network of overgrown renes is apparent.
Source: Meat, goats milk. No other aparent resources.
Wildlife: Various domestic animals fgone wild, possibly originally from the village. Among the more successful are the goats, which have proliferated but cows and sheep are also to be found. Occasional lakes formed, rich in freshwater fish.
THE NORTHERN PEAKS AND FOOTHILLS
Terrain: A sharp sided mountain range, plus rolling foot hills densely covered with trees on their flanks. Large moors appear on top of the hills, with grass and many small streams and waterfalls.
Sources: Meat, fish and occasional seams of coal.
Wildlife: Goats that have migrated from the Northern Flatlands, a deer type creature that grazes in herds and numerous small animals such as rabbits and moles. Birds of prey are present and during the winter months an occasional wolf can be found here.
HILLSIDES AND FJORDS
Terrain: A large network of valleys which have been partially flooded by the sea, making navigation of this land torturous but achievable. The remaining hills are covered with tough, stiff grass which can survive the salt content of the ground and living trees are found only on the top of the hills. However, dead trees are commonly poking out of the edge of the water, hinting at a catastrophic change in altitude which dumped the entire region into the sea. Fresh water is rare.
Sources: Seabird eggs. The trees are very dense, and produce immensely strong wood.
Wildlife: Mainly seabirds with some small general animals found amoung the scrub on the hills.
THE GREAT NORTHERN MEADOWS AND FORESTS
Terrain: Thick carpets of grass and clover on the lower valleys, giving way to thick groves of Oaks and Ash as well as other deciduous trees.
Sources: Wild horses, which can be trapped and tamed.
Wildlife: Wild horses inhabit this area, as well as the usual small animals and birds of prey. Wolves are few and far between.
BARREN EARTH PLAINS AND LARGE CITY
Terrain: Baked, crumbly earth consists of most of this region, in which few trees can dig in roots and remain upright. Smaller bushes are more common but can be uprooted easily. The city itself is composed of white stone, although it is unclear where it originally came from, and is slowly falling into ruins of it's former glory.
Sources: Occaional pieces of jewelery and metalwork can be found within the city itself. Some small plants will give water if compressed.
Wildlife: None yet discovered.
CHALK CLIFFS AND GRASSLANDS
Terrain: High white cliffs with numerous holes gouged out by seabirds. Going near the cliff can be dangerous as they will attack if they feel their nests are threatened. Further inland is a grassy rolling plain scattered with copses of trees. and occasional small streams running in channels cut into the chalk bedrock.
Sources: None yet discovered.
Wildlife: Deer similar to those found around Dragonspire. Yearly they migrate to the Northern Foothills through the Northern Meadows in order to mate along with the deer already there. Various small animals are also present.
FOREST AND FRESHWATER LAKE
Terrain: Virtually unbroken forest but for the great freshwater lake. Some parasitic ivy growths on the trees can weaken them, eventually toppling them.
Sources: Fish, as well as plants of as yet unknown medicinal value.
Wildlife: Some sightings have been made of a large hairy creature similar to the Grels found in the east redwood tree forest. Other than that, songbirds are common.
THE FERTILE VALLEY
Terrain: Gentle hills and fields full of grass and crops. Fruit trees are in abundance.
Sources: Fruit. Pefect grazing land.
Wildlife: Scattered cow herds and the usual small animals.
DARK ENCHANTED FOREST
Terrain: Massive trees which seem to almost join into each other, producing one massive light obscuring canopy which darkens all beneath it. Various paths lead into the interior but often change in the night or vanish altogether althought he trees never seem to move. Voices seem to whisper dark secrets on the cusp of hearing as a lonely wind whistles through the branches. Only parasitic fungi can survive here, but dark shapes are somethimes visable flitting through the trees.
Sources: Steed trading, trained hounds, lumber.
Wildlife:
Dark hounds and Ebony steeds.
Dark hounds are the size of wolves, with long tapered ears and pale, milky eyes. Their colour ranges from pure black to dark grey. The most horrifying thing about the apparitions are the twin heads and the insect like six legs. Ebony steeds seem distorted by the same magic that created the dark houds. Like them, they have six legs and are univerally jet black. The horses possess long fangs and mouthes of sharpened teeth.
Dark Screechers.
They have three legs, and their wings look to be layered, but when the wings are spread it looks as if they have six wings instead of just the two at first. The bird has a beak full of teeth, two fangs protruding from the side of its beak. What set this beast of a bird apart is its pitch black eyes along with its midnight black feathers. Its main defence is its ear splitting screech that comes from its beak.
Euol'Tagnik'zur (Gem Dragons)
These reptiles of the Dark Enchanted Forest can only be found in the region of the Protected Forest, they range in sizes of Females 6 to 8 feet long, and the males can get up to 10 feet long, these very quick and agile creatures have 8 legs, which the front 4 have special claws that they use for climbing, they have 3 eyes but only use two for seeing, the third is a sensor, located on the top of their heads for detecting the strongest magic presence, the other two eyes are what give them their name, the eyes are either a red or a white in color and are facetted, like a Diamond or a Ruby, their mouths are full of razor sharp teeth(1 to 2 inches in length) and they have a pair of fangs that inject a low level toxin, paralyzing its prey, they use the magic found in the Protected Forest to heat up their bodies(Like an Iguana does with the sun)this helps them to digest their food, and help to make them as fast as they are, they are attracked to the most powerful source of magic within a 10 mile radius and will flock to that point.
They are the only species in the Dark Enchanted Forest that is protected from any type of harm, such as hunting for food or pelts, they only breed once every 5 years,if they make it past their first year of life.
